'Aunt' Bea is a female Snowy Owl, or Bubo scandiacus, and an old friend of Freya, the mother of Fritha. Before Fritha revealed her heritage, Bea acted as her excuse for leaving the Great Tree occasionally.
History[]
Lost Tales of Ga'Hoole[]
Prior to her death, the kraal Pygmy Fritha met Bea, who was at that time a gadfeather somewhere in the Northern Kingdoms and despite the warlike and criminal ways of the pirate owls, Bea befriended Fritha, as well as became similarly acquainted with her inventive mate, Flinn.
Bea, it appears, eventually retired from the troubadour life of gadfeathers to instead take up a life of reflective seclusion on Elsemere Island as a Glauxian Sister. Despite this, she retained contact with Flinn, at least to the point that when the widowed Pygmy Owl, wishing to send his and Freya's child, Fritha, to a place where she could truly put her ingenuitive skills to the test, was able to locate her and convince her to assist him. As part of his plan to conceal Fritha's identity as one of the buccaneer owls of the Hrath'ghar Glacier, Flinn and Bea organized for Fritha's claim when she wished to visit her sire to be that she was visiting her 'Aunt Bea' on the retreat of the Glauxian Sisters. This was — in part — truth, for Fritha always visited Bea on the way to her birthplace for the night.
