Bartholomew V was a hatchling Barn Owl, or Tyto alba, and an inhabitant of the Shadow Forest. He was reluctantly murdered by his own cousin, Bartholomew, when he was pushed by him from his nest as an infant in the name of Bartholomew's Tytonic Union Pure Special Initiation.
History[]
Early Life[]
Like his great-grandfather, grandfather, paternal uncle and cousin, his parents continued the family's tradition of naming their males Bartholomew. The family, much like their kin, resided in the Shadow Forest, in their case, in a nest constructed within the branches of a fir tree. Though apparently relatively close as cousins were, Bartholomew was regarded, at least by his aunt, to be an "impure" owl, although the reason behind such views is unknown. It is unconfirmed if Bartholomew and his family knew of their relatives decision to join the forces of the Tytonic Union of Pure Ones in the wake of their patriarch's death.
Murder[]
In order to join the ranks of the Pure Ones' elite forces, Bartholomew was singled out for his the Tupsi ceremony of his cousin (now known as Uglamore), which required him to kill a family relative. At the urgings of his mother, Uglamore shoved Bartholomew from the nest of his family, who encouraged him to the act of “putting that poor thing out of his misery”. Despite the praise of his mother, Uglamore was left traumatized by the experience.
