Battle Divisions

There are several notable battle divisions in the Guardians of Ga'Hoole book series, movie, and game.

Guardians

• Strix Struma Strikers — A division created by Strix Struma, and led by her until her death, after which her position was filled by Otulissa. The unit is known for their exceptional flying skills.
• Flame Squadron — A division that deals with lit branches ignited in hidden caches of buried coals before battle and is heavily aligned with the Bonk Brigade. Members of the Squadron are only armed with the lightest of battle claws and before his death, Bruce was one of them.
• Bonk Brigade — An elite division that deals with lit fire branches. The Chaw of Chaws are mostly part of the Bonk Brigade, with the exceptions of Otulissa and Ruby. One technique of theirs, which Soren invented, was the "classic rocket maneuver". They split into pairs. One would throw a flaming missile at a target, and the second one would retrieve it in midair after the target was either hit or missed so the throw could be repeated.
• Elvan's Flying Screechers — A brigade led by the ryb Elvan and armed with Nickel Alloy Super-Talons. Given its name, the Flying Screeches might have been composed of Screech Owls in particular, despite its leader being a Great Gray.
• Barran's Elite Talons — A battalion that, prior to her and Boron's death, were led by Queen Barran of Ga'Hoole against the Pure Ones. The owls of this unit were armed with the latest NAST battle claws.
• Snare Unit — A group of owls and nest-maid snakes under the leadership of Huckmore. Before the Siege, Soren, Gylfie, and Twilight were members of this unit, as was Horace Plithiver. The unit were tasked with weaving together and setting up milkberry nettings.
• Hunting Unit -
• Jossian Corps — An elite group of messengers inspired by the messenger Joss, from the legends. A notable member is Clover, who served during the War of the Ember.
• Dump Brigade — A division created by Dumpy the Fifteenth, it's composed of puffins from the Ice Narrows, sporting frozen fish for weapons.
• Black and White Brigade/The Splat — Led by Doc Finebeak, it is a division of crows and seagulls. The Splat is what the seagulls call their unit. They assisted in the War of the Ember.
• Danyar Division — Unit of blue owls from the Middle Kingdoms. Their arrival during the War of the Ember allowed for Coryn to stealthily return the Ember of Hoole.
• Greenowls —

Tytonic Union of Pure Ones

• Pure Guard — A commanding unit composed of officers, like Wortmore, who accompany High Tyto Kludd in battle. The Guard, when not at full force, is composed of up to eighty and are trained elites when it comes to fighting and though never called such, they seem to act as their master's inner circle, with members of the Guard, along with Nyra (who was perhaps part of the Guard herself), nearly always accompanying him.
• Nyra Annihilators (The Shattering) — An elite unit of Pure One soldiers under the command of Nyra that served as her personal guard during missions. They pursued Eglantine and Primrose when they stole the Sacred Orb. Though the members seem to be most primarily composed of Barn Owls, several owls of the species regarded as "lesser" also accompanied Nyra in her reconnaissance mission, even including a Sooty Owl, who's species were considered lowest of the low.
• Blue Brigade — A group formed and led by the Striga, dedicated to raiding hollows and burrows in order to retrieve and burn all vanities, which includes jewelry, art, and books for purposes other than education. Though most of the group was all but massacred in an attempted takeover of the Great Tree, a small faction escaped with the Striga and later merged with the Pure Ones under the full control of Nyra.
• Fire Talons — A specialized Pure One unit trained to utilize fire claws — battle claws with small coals inserted at the tip. The unit was only seen during the Battle of Fire and Ice where it took part in an ambush organized by Metal Beak.
• Scouts — A division of Pure One advanced guards led by Stryker, who is the Union's best tracker. The vanguard is considered an elite unit and, as their name suggests, act as outriders for a Pure One invasion force. Vaygar, an underling of Stryker's, might have been a member of this unit prior to his murder.
• Striga Force — A battle unit lead and named by the Striga after he joined Nyra. The battalion was formed solely of Blue Owls from the Panqua Palace converted by Nyra to her cause, both corrupt servants and escaped Dragon Owls and was later added to by a small group of the broodies assigned to the Ice Palace.

Northern Kingdoms

• The League of Ice Talons — A army of owls who fought for centuries against the owls of the Kielian League before they met a final but unofficial defeat after the demises of their leaders Bylyric, then his son, Jesper, after which the Ice Talons and Kielian League came to a tentative peace. The ultimate goal of the Ice Talons is to unite all the owls kingdoms, including Ga'Hoole, under their regime through the concept of eternal and global peace.
• Kielian League — A league of Owls, Kielian Snakes, and Snow Leopards that fought together in the War of the Ice Claws. They assisted in the War of the Ember. A typical Kielian League division was comprised of anywhere between three hundred to five hundred owls. There are many sub-divisions:
  • The Frost Beaks — A battle division of Kielian League led by Colonel Frost Blossom. It is mostly composed of smaller owls who wield ice splinters, engaging in ranged combat. The ice splinters are launched from a talon held launcher, then reloaded at a station or midair with assistance. Blix was a notable past member.
  • The Ice Daggers — Composed of mostly midsized owls like Screeches and Barn Owls, these owls specialize in wielding small ice weapons during short range combat. The Ice Daggers were led by Ulfa, the mother of Ezylryb.
  • The Glauxspeed Division — Part of the Kielian League, they are a specialized group of flying owls with snakes on their backs that launch ice rockets and shatter ice weapons with their strength. Ezylryb and Octavia were a part of the Glauxspeed Division, with the former being its founder. Their positions consist of Double Wing Commander and Tail Launcher. This division at max strength had three hundred forty creatures consisting of owls, Kielian snakes, and snow leopards. It once included in its ranks Strix Struma, Ifghar, Moss and Gragg.
  • The Ice Squires — One of the oldest units in the Kielian League. The Ice Squires fight with both hot and cold weapons. It was once led by a pompous Short-eared Owl, Captain Ludvigsen, who's family had led long and distinguished careers in it throughout five generations. 
  • The Ice Lancers
  • The Flying Leopards
  • The Hot Blades
  • Screaming Ice Scimitars — Also known as the 'Sissies' for short. A unit formed only of female owls, many of them Snowy Owls with gadfeather pasts. Despite the peaceful, Gypsie-like lives they once lived, every member of the Sissies is specially trained in Ice Scimitars.
• The Resistance — A group of owls dedicated to pushing back against the League of Ice Talons during the War of the Ice Claws and affiliated with the Kielian League. Their members include/included Berrick, Torsten, Thora Plonk, and Sigfried.

Other Divisions

The Resistance (video game) — A group of Tytos in the Tyto Forest dedicated to fighting against the destruction of the forest caused by the Pure Ones. It is led by Bryony.
