Beyond the Beyond is a place that is beyond of the owl kingdoms, and is the adopted homeland of the dire wolves. Many historic events in Hoolian history have occurred here; the majority of those events being centered around the Ember of Hoole. Most of the Wolves of the Beyond series takes place in the Beyond.

History[]

The First Collier[]

Grank traveled here and retreived the Ember of Hoole. From the text, it appears that the Sacred Ring was closer to the Northern Kingdoms, though, for whatever odd reason, he went to the Southern Kingdoms after leaving the Sacred Ring, where he had learned off the attack on his friends the king and queen.

The Coming of Hoole[]

Grank brought young Hoole there to learn about the dire wolves and their customs. Hoole retrieved the Ember of Hoole and was recognized as king by all creatures.

The Shattering[]

Following their defeat in the Beaks, Nyra led her Pure Guard to Beyond the Beyond, where the Pure Ones had taken a hideout, to await further instructions from her mate, Kludd. During the flight to the Beyond, Uglamore contemplated the wisdom of such a rigid social structure as the Pure Ones took on.

The Outcast[]

Coryn retreived the Ember of Hoole and became king of Hoole.

The Golden Tree[]

While listing the various fates that had befallen Pure Ones and left himself, Nyra, Gebbles, Spyke and Wortmore all that remains of Kludd's inner circle of followers, Lieutenant Major Stryker notes that some of the survivors of the War of the Pure Ones had disappeared into Beyond the Beyond, seeking to escape retribution for their crimes in the somewhat lawless lands of Beyond the Beyond.

The War of the Ember[]

The battle that would decide the fate of the six owl kingdoms was fought here. The dire wolves fought with the Guardians as defenders.

Lone Wolf[]

Faolan is born in the Beyond as a malcadh. He joins the MacDuncan clan.

Watch Wolf[]

Faolan joins the Sacred Watch. A war between wolves and bears is almost started by the jealous MacHeath clan, but prevented by Faolan and his friends.

Frost Wolf[]

A new Long Cold overtakes the Beyond, bringing a horrible famine as most prey leaves for more hospitable lands. Most of the wolf clans fall into despair and dismantle. In desperation, many wolves end up joining a death cult, led by the cowardly Liam MacDuncan.

Spirit Wolf[]

After the famine, the Beyond is struck by an enormous earthquake, destroying much of the land by opening deep crevices and collapsing many caves. All scent marks and trails are decimated, making the familiar land entirely foreign. Said earthquake breaks loose the Hrath'gar Glacier in the Northern Kingdoms, causing it to swiftly travel towards and into the Beyond, destroying everything in its path including the Unnamed Island in the Bitter Sea, and at least a portion of the Spirit Woods. This also brings the collapse of two of the volcanoes of the Sacred Ring, and with it the Ember of Hoole itself is destroyed.

Star Wolf[]

After the destruction of their lives in the Beyond, Faolan leads his group out of their homelands and over the Ice Bridge.

Description[]

Notable Locations[]

Note: The current state of the Beyond's landscape is said to be quite different after the events of Spirit Wolf, as stated in Bears of the Ice. Some of these locations may not exist anymore, or are altered in some way, but not much has been solidly confirmed.

Climate[]

The Beyond has a continental climate, and is warmer than the Northern Kingdoms. Near the Ring of Sacred Volcanoes, special winds form from the thermals and slopes of the volcanoes. The Beyond is somewhat moist and cool in general. Population of prey in the Beyond usually fluctuates according to seasons.

During the events of the Wolves of the Beyond series, the climate changed, and the Hrath'gar Glacier from the Northern Kingdoms broke down, causing additional earthquakes and scraping across the landscape. This change in climate left the Beyond and Ambala, and possibly the Spirit Woods and Shadow Forest, uninhabitable.

Somewhere during the passage of twenty years between Wolves of the Beyond and Bears of the Ice, the Beyond returned to its continental climate.
