Bluebell is a female Pygmy Owl, or Glaucidium gnoma. She and her family were the first to take a young Twilight in after he was orphaned and was believed by Twilight to be the mother of Dahlia, though the Great Gray stated it was equally possible that it was the other way around.
History[]
Taking in Cassius[]
After Bluebell and her family discovered an infant Great Gray, the Pygmy Owl, in an act of kindness, took him in and adopted him as one of their own. Bluebell was the larger of the two Pygmies and while Twilight assumed the small of the pair, Dahlia, was Bluebell's daughter, he claimed it could just as well have been the opposite, as Dahlia and Bluebell only refered to one another as ‘Lil Pyggy’ and ‘Big Pyggy’ respectively. Due to the young owlet's constant mentioning the word twilight in his sleep and with no other way of knowing his birth name, Bluebell subsequently named the homeless owlet Twilight, which would stick. After outgrowing the hollow, the Great Gray now known as Twilight bid farewell to the pair of Pygmy Owls and set out into the world, though he recalled them with apparent fondness.
