Coryn, or Cory for short, is is a male Burrowing Owl, or Athene cunicularia. He is the son of Myrtle and Harry and Kalo's younger brother, as well as the brother-in-law of Grom and the uncle of Siv and Bruno. As an egg, he was stolen by the Pure Ones, but was rescued by Coryn, who took the egg back to his family. His family was so grateful that, upon its hatching, they chose to name the chick Coryn in his honor.

The Outcast[]
The egg that was to be Cory was snatched by some Pure One refugees, but Coryn managed to return the egg to its family. Upon hatching, the burrowing owls named their chick Coryn after his savior. The original Coryn stayed long enough to see the owlet go though some of his ceremonies and was even allowed to bring the owlet his first worm. The original Coryn, after he left, assumed temporarily that he was supposed to be a tutor to the owlet named after him.
Exile[]
Coryn appears as a full grown owl, now nicknamed Cory. His sister, Kalo, had taken a mate, Grom, and had a daughter and a son, Siv and Bruno. During the Burning of the Books by the Blue Brigade, Cory witnessed his sister refusing to give up a book of legends. The Blue Brigade claimed Coryn, who became king of the Great Ga'Hoole Tree and was right now under the influence of the mysterious Striga, ordered this command. After Kalo fled, Cory decided to find the king and see if it was true. Cory managed to reach the Great Tree, where he became a key character in waking Coryn from the Striga's spell by reminding him of Kalo and his past with his family.
The War of the Ember[]
Cory, Kalo and Grom were sent to the Northern Kingdoms with Gwyndor, Coryn and Octavia to recruit owls for the War of the Ember.
