Elab was a broody of unspecified gender who aided in caring for the clutch of Hagsfiend eggs stolen from the Panqua Palace and hidden within the Ice Cliff Palace by the Pure Ones.
It is currently unspecified whether Elab was one of the twelve Dragon Owls of the Panqua Palace who, after being rallied to action by Nyra, plucked off their extra feathers to regain their ability to fly and subsequently fled the Middle Kingdoms to join Nyra and the Striga or was among the several Pure Ones called in by Nyra to join the project, as they were only noted by the Striga to be a particular large owl.
History[]
The War of the Ember[]
Elab, alongside the other broodies assigned to the task, cared for the eight mature hagsfiend eggs Nyra and Orlando had seen flown from the Middle Kingdoms to the Northern Kingdoms, then transported to a fissure in the Ice Cliff Palace, where they were cared for in nests woven from shards of ice. In the wake of the untimely deaths of four of Nyra's broodies in a skirmish against a group of kraals and gadfeathers, the broody schedule was tightened so that none were excused. Elab beheld the conversation between Nyra, the Striga and Tarn, though it is unconfirmed whether they were one of the three who voiced the believed honour and meaning such a chore had given the owls who perceived their former lives as ones of no significant, but likely showed relief as Tarn stated that the Ember of Hoole was not heading towards the coast and its danger of salt water, but rather the volcanoes of Beyond the Beyond. The Madame General and Blue Snowy subsequently resolve to go ahead and muster their army with reinforcements from the broodies themselves and Elab was asked by the Striga if, with Elab's large build, they could pull double shifts. Answering that they thought they could take one or even two more, Elab as such remained behind as Nyra led the Striga and eighteen of the broodies to fight and as such, they were surely present and were killed when a dire wolf slink melf of the MacNamara Clan, led by Gyllbane, launched an attack on the Palace, destroying the eggs and presumably killing the broodies, Elab among them.
