Elfstrom was a Snowy Owl neighbor of Lyze on Stormfast Island. He was a veteran of the War of the Ice Claws, having been put on leave from a striker unit after an intense battle in the Ice Narrows. Due to his age and the timeline of the story being when Lyze was young, he is most likely deceased.

Elfstrom is present for Lyze's hatching at the beginning of the book, along with Gundesfyrr. Later, he takes part in the battle when Ice Talons raid Stormfast, and helps Lyze come to his senses after he nearly dying when his tree burst into flames.
