"Fetch it, quickly."
―Dewlap's only voice line briefly telling a Saw-whet to fetch help for Eglantine, Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole

Dewlap is a female Burrowing owl, or Athene cunicularia, and the Ga’Hoology ryb at the Great Tree in Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole. She makes several brief, voiceless appearances, with one quick line.

History[]

Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole[]

Dewlap was seen briefly on the perch with AllomereBarranBoronBuboEzylrybStrix Struma and the rest of the parliament after The Band arrived at the Great Tree.

She later appeared for several seconds when Digger dug up a crab, which subsequently pinched him. She was seen looking un-amused while Soren, Gylfie, Twilight and Otulissa laugh.

Later, after Allomere returns with Eglantine and another downed owlet, Dewlap briefly asks a Saw-whet to go fetch help.

When the Band are made Guardians in the end, she is seen cheering and bowing.

Trivia[]

  • This Burrowing Owl character is never explicitly named during the movie, but due to their inclusion in the Parliament, their role at the Great Tree and their no-nonsense attitude it can inferred that this owl was likely intended to be Dewlap.
  • In the art book, she seems to be listed as a character named "Speo." It is possible that there was more of a plan for this character and that this may not be Dewlap at all, or that they scrapped the character and simply used the model of Speo they already had for Dewlap.
  • Unlike many other characters in the movie adaptation, Dewlap’s movie design remains quite similar to how she appears in book illustrations.
  • In the books, her chaw is called "Ga'Hoolology". For the movie, they changed it to "Ga'Hoology", most likely to make it easier to say.
