Firesight

Firesight is the ability of an owl to "see into the gizzard of a fire." The owl with this gift can see images in the fire, such as the future, the past, or the truth. Few owls had the gift; the only confirmed cases were that of Grank, Hoole, and Coryn. The legendary blacksmith Orf of Dark Fowl Island was rumored to have it, but this has never been proved.

There are different levels of power in being able to read a fire. A fire is said to offer its images to the most powerful fire reader, such as in the case of Hoole and Grank; since Hoole was more powerful at reading than Grank, the fire offered clearer images to Hoole. Some owls considered the gift a curse.
