Flint's Friends are a pair of young Barn Owls and recruits of the Tytonic Union of Pure Ones who, along with their compadre Flint, guarded a clutch of stolen eggs, including that of Cory.
Biography[]
Prior to the Books[]
The lives of Flint's Friends before they left their hollows to join the ranks of the Pure Ones are next to unknown. One, however, claims that they were a victim of kidnapping by egg-snatchers, though it is unknown if this is a valid claim or was simply an excuse created in the terror of the moment. If the claim is true, however, than this Barn Owl was presumably snatched either by the Pure Ones themselves or was one of the many owlets abducted by St. Aegolius Academy for Orphaned Owls but was later recruited or indoctrinated into the former's ranks after Kludd led his armies in an invasion of the Canyonlands.
The Outcast[]
Along with Flint, these two young owls, in the final trial of initiation to test the courage of the trio and subsequently grant than immediate promotion to the position of officers in Nyra's army, were set to guard a small clutch of eggs that Pure Ones had stolen from inhabitants of the Barrens until Wortmore and Stryker arrived to transfer them to the St. Aggie's eggorium. Fearful despite themselves, the two were scolded by their friend for expressing their nerves, Flint reminding them that their simple task as guards was to test if their backbone would hold up on the battlefield, yet continued to remain skittish, jumping at the sound of rustling despite Flint's annoyance. To the terror of the three Barn Owls, however, they were confronted suddenly by the haggish silhouette of who they believed to be Nyra, who threatened to enslave them in hagsmire at a terrifying screech, sending Flint's Friends spiraling away in fright, one babbling they should never have left the safety of their parents and the other shreeing that they had been snatched.
