Grettir was an acolyte and the father of Shard. He was the mate of Lygeia. He appeared in the Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole (video game) and the DS game.

History[]

Before the Game[]

At some point as a young owl, he met and befriended Athos, a Burrowing Owl veteran of the War of the Ice Claws.

Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole (video game)[]

Grettir was on guard duty at Perrock Monastery, when he felt a disturbance in his gizzard. He quickly flew to investigate, only to find the monastery was under attack by hagsfiends. He fought valiantly, but in the end most were slain, and Perrock was lost.

Word soon spread throughout the owl kingdoms of his negligence, forcing Grettir to isolate himself from the owl kingdoms. He settled in one of the owl kingdoms in with his mate, Lygeia. Lygeia eventually laid an egg, whom they both cherished.

On the night of the egg's hatching, a group of Pure Ones led by Allomere, a Guardian close to Grettir who was secretly a Pure One turnfeather, attacked. Grettir and Lygeia paired up to fight the Pure Ones and defend their precious egg, but they were ultimately killed in the skirmish.

Allomere and the Pure Ones fled before the Guardians arrived to rescue the terrified hatchling, bringing him to the Great Ga'Hoole Tree. His hatching was then named Shard and raised to be a Guardian.

Trivia[]

  • The intro cutscene on the DS version of the game shows that Grettir settled down with Lygeia in the Shadow Forest.
