H'rooth was a male Burrowing Owl, or Athene cunicularius, who lived during the time of the legends as the most skillful of King H'rath's ice harvesters. He was killed in a hagsfiend attack when he was beheaded by one of the crowls in their typical fashion and his was the first marked demise of Lord Arrin's uprising.

Before the Books[]
As the most skillful of H'rath's team of ice harvesters, H'rooth was appointed to the position of overall command of the team of harvesters permitted by Lord Arrin to mine issen blaue in his fiefdom after such rights were successful secured in a peace treaty.
The First Collier[]
While in the entrancement of the Ember of Hoole, Grank beheld a vision of H'rooth and his owls in the flames as they mined. Suddenly, however, the harvesters were the victims of a savage attack launched by the hagsfiends now in the service of Arrin and H'rooth was sent plummeting to the earth — decapitated — while his head was born away by his killer on an ice sword.
News of H'rooth's death would motivate his brother to fight the invading forces of Lord Arrin and Penryck during the Battle where H'rath breathed his last breath.
