Hanja's Mate was a male Whiskered Screech Owl, or Megascops kennicottii, and the mate of Hanja, thus making him the maternal uncle of Lyze and Ifghar. He died young, although the details of his demise are never given any clarity, though he most likely either succumbed to an unknown illness or died as a result of the War of the Ice Claws.
Biography[]
At an unknown point in time, this Whiskered Screech met and became romantically involved with another member of his species, an owl by the name of Hanja, eventually entering in a Wingfast with her and becoming her mate. The union did not last long, however, and Hanja was left a widow after her partner perished at a young age.
The Rise of a Legend[]
Lyze mentions his deceased uncle during the celebration that followed the First-Meat-On-Bones Ceremony of Ifghar, feeling a stab of pity for his aunt and how she was shunned by the others due to the rumours that branded her a harbinger of misfortune, recalling how she had been left alone after the death of her late mate.
