Little Hoole is a Kielian League military camp located deep within the H'rathghar mountains, at the northern edge of an area known as Glen Hoole. The camp is within a deep, bowl-shaped depression, where an old fortress built by the Others stands, known as Ghareth's Keep. The fortress was once considered impenetrable, and was of great strategical importance during the War of the Ice Claws. During winter, any owl staying there became trapped by the violent snowstorms and fog. However, after an earthquake, along with damage to the Keep itself, a large crack was formed, extending up one of the walls of the bowl to create a narrow opening.

A Guide Book to the Great Tree[]
Strix Struma was sent as a young owl to Little Hoole as punishment for her defiant nature, with hopes that she would become a better, more disciplined owl. When the earthquake takes place that destroys a portion of the Keep and creates a crack that leaves Little Hoole vulnerable to attack, the Ice Talons form units to storm the Keep. The Battle of Little Hoole then occurs, in which up to one thousand Ice Talons soldiers attack the resident Kielian League soldiers, of which there are only a few hundred. Still, after a long valiant battle, the Kielian League is victorious once reinforcements arrive. Among these reinforcements was Barran, future queen of the Great Tree.
