Ludvigsen IV is a retired Short-eared Owl fighter of the Kielian League and the father of Captain Ludvigsen Asio Flammeus, a pompous teacher at the Kielian League Military Academy who often butted heads with Lyze of Kiel (later known as Ezylyrb).

The son, grandson and great-grandson of renowned Kielian League soldiers, Ludvigsen was, like his father, his father's father and his father's father's father before him, named after the Other known to have named the Short-eared owl species. Like his family before him, Ludvigsen lead a distinguished life as part of the Ice Squires, rounding off his career as a teacher at the Kielian League Military Academy. He also married and had a son, Ludvigsen the Fifth, who followed in his clawsteps to become a captain in the Squires.

Ludvigsen IV was mentioned by his son while Captain Ludvigsen recounted his family's long history as soldiers of the Kielian League and their custom of baring the name of the Other who classified the Short-eared owl species.
