- Lysa to Lyze in The Rise of a Legend
Lysa was a female Whiskered Screech Owl, or Megascops trichopsis, and the younger sister of Lyze of Kiel (more commonly known as Ezylryb), Edvard and Ifghar.
History[]
The Rise of a Legend[]
Lysa is hatched near the end of the first act of the book on Stormfast Island. Her parents, Rask and Ulfa, are off fighting in the War of the Ice Claws, so she is raised by Lyze, their nestmaid Gilda, and their caretaker Gundesfyrr. Lyze loves her dearly, and she returns the unconditional love. Unfortunately, she never gets the chance to meet her parents nor her eventual brother, Ifghar, when Stormfast is attacked by Ice Talons and their family pine tree is burned down, with Lysa inside. Lyze tried desperately to save her, but passed out from breathing smoke and was only barely rescued himself.
A Guide Book to the Great Tree[]
Ifghar tells the story of his sister, how Lyze didn't seem to care about her and at one point, he left her alone and she fell from their tree, being devoured by a coyote.
Trivia[]
- Lysa was said to be killed by a coyote in A Guide Book to the Great Tree because she fell out of the tree when Lyze wasn't watching out for her, but in The Rise of a Legend, she was killed in a forest fire when she suffocated by the smoke. However, since the version about Lysa being killed by a coyote is told by Ifghar, it's possible that he didn't know the real circumstances of her death or made up the story to make Lyze sound bad.
- In A Guide Book to the Great Tree, Ifghar states that Lyze didn't really care about Lysa, but in The Rise of a Legend Lyze loved her deeply. Again, it's possible that Ifghar either incorrectly assumed this or he intentionally lied about it.
