Piet was a Short-eared Owl, or Asio flammeus, who served as an ice scrapper for the Kielian League. He was killed in a brief skirmish between several members of the Kielian League and a force of hireclaws under the command of Bylyric's top lieutenant.

The Rise of a Legend[]
Along with three other Short-eared owls and two Barn Owls, Piet was part of the team of Kielian League ice harvesters and scrappers that were excavating ice weapons from the Ice Dagger when the island was visited by Raskin, Arne and their sons. With Bela and another Short-eared, Piet collected the shards sheared off by the ice harvesters. Suddenly, however, a force of hireclaws belonging to the League of the Ice Talons attacked and, in mere seconds, Piet was killed and sent plummeting wingless towards the ocean. Bela, Aiyunne and Orf (who Friedl had informed upon making arrival at Dark Fowl) all expressed sadness over the demise of Piet, Orf commenting how a good scrapper like Piet would have made a fine harvester.
