Pinyon is a Pygmy Owl, or Glaucidium gnoma from the Middle Kingdoms, thus making him a Blue Owl, and a student of the Mountain of Time, being noted by the Danyk to capable of instigating a perfectly executed performance of the third-degree Zi Kyan Mu.

Whilst training in the art of zong qui under the tutorship of the Danyk, Twilight was witness to Pinyon's perfectly instigated a third-degree Zi Kyan Mu to knock his sparring partner — a Great Gray of far larger build — from his perch, to Twilight's shock and the Danyk's praise.
