Primrose's Hollowmate was a young Masked Owl of undetermined gender and species rescued by the Guardians after the Great Downing, after which they were made the hollow mate of Primrose, but died from summer flux.

History[]

Before the Books[]

Though unclear circumstances, this Masked Owl found themselves as a young owlet among the Pure Ones, a group of owls dedicated to defending the supremacy of the Tyto genus. Subsequently, they, along with so many other owls the Tytonic Union of Pure Ones had snatched over the years, were indoctrinated into the Pure Ones' beliefs and told that Tytos alone were descendants of Glaux, as well as being forced to sleep in stone crypts with the bones of the "Purest Ones", which stone stunned them, causing the youngsters to lose their identities as Metal Beak and his followers attempted to mold the many owlets into an army. Like all the owlets who were not Tyto Albas, Primrose's Hollowmate was given the lower jobs by Metal Beak, though, as a Masked Owl, they were likely not treated as bad as an owlet of a breed such as one of the Sooties.

The stronghold where they were being kept, however, was suddenly raided by Skench and her St. Aggie's forces, who made off with Primrose's Hollowmate, among others. The Pure Ones caught up in the kingdom of Ambala, and the two lawless forces battled for the owlets, but in the process, this young Masked Owl, along with scores of others, was dropped by the St. Aggie's owls, leading to the event that would later be known as the "Great Downing." The Masked Owl was subsequently found by the Guardians of Ga'hoole, though they, like the others dropped, continued to babble of Tyto superiority until the trance was broken by moonlight reflected through an isinglass. However, neither Primrose's Hollowmate nor any other owlet had any memory of how they came to be found on the ground, far from any nests. This Masked Owl was eventually paired in a hollow with Primrose, a young Pygmy.

The Siege[]

The hollowmate of Primrose, however, eventually died on summer flux, leaving Primrose alone in their hollow until Barran put her and Eglantine together.
