'Q' is a Boreal Owl, or Aegolius funereus, of unspecified gender. Precious little is known regarding 'Q', other than that they were known as this simply by the first letter of their title of Quartermaster, which they served as for the Guardians of Ga'hoole.

The Keepers of the Keys[]
As the Great Tree and its inhabitants readied themselves for war on the savage cult known as the Timekeepers of the Ice Caps, the stashes of weaponry situated both in the Tree and secretly in pockets of storage stationed throughout the Northern Kingdoms, including the Ice Dagger, were subject to an inventory list from 'Q' as the Boreal took note of all the supplies that would be needed for a campaign such as what the Guardians were intending.
