Rodmilla's Companion was a Great Horned Owl, or Bubo virginianus, and a young recruit of the League of the Ice Talons. He accompanied Rodmilla in her plans to discover the Resistance hideout and was killed during a brief skirmish against the rebels.

History[]

Lost Tales of Ga'Hoole[]

Shortly after his recruitment into the forces of Bylyric, this Great Horned was recruited by Rodmilla Plonk as part of a triad of newly-recruited Ice Talons with whom she intended to carry out a rushed plan to pinpoint the central headquarters of the Resistance movement for her, her three guards and a massive invasion force from the Ice Talons. As they approached the eastern coast of Dark Fowl Island, he signaled his leader and comrades to indicate it was now that they should descend and begin their masquerade of locals hoping to join the Kielian rebel coterie. When Rodmilla, in the Great Horned's company, set claw in the hollow that served as the hideout's entrance, intending to talk her and her followers' way in, she was confronted by Thora and Sigfried, the latter of whom the Great Horned Owl watched his leader cut down before she was charged by a new arrival: her own mate, Berrick. Sweeping to his commander's aid in a flurry of slashes, Rodmilla's Companion swiftly brought down the bareclawed Snowy, breaking his wing in seconds, whereupon Rodmilla moved in to strike the finishing blow. The double agent Snowy, howbeit, was soon fighting for her life against the rage-blind and clawed Thora, who struck Rodmilla down before her troops eyes. Untouched by his leader's sudden end, Rodmilla's Companion instantly returned his attention to the battle as Berrick's followers swarmed in to meet in combat with the Ice Talon soldiers, who the Resistance swiftly finished off with fatal blows.

Personality[]

Little is known in regard to the nameless Great Horned's nature, but he seemed obedient to his superiors and relatively skilled in battle, despite only having recently joined the League of the Ice Talons. He was evidently ruthless in battle and did not show any concern for the fates of enemies of Bylyric, attacking Berrick despite the Snowy being unarmed and leaving him to be taunted, then cut down, by Rodmilla. Neither, however, does Rodmilla's Companion show much regard to the fates of his allies, showing not a flicker of sadness or anger when Rodmilla was struck down before him, instead turning his attention to the incoming enemy without hesitation.

His decision to join a battle where he and his companions were vastly outnumbered implies either a naive or arrogant side to Rodmilla's Companion, as he seemed to think he could still escape when he was actually flying to his doom.
