Ryt was a female Snowy Owl, or Nyctea scandiacus, of the era of legends known as 'The Fire Cycle'. During her life, Ryt was the mate of Dyvrn, an owl blessed by the spirit of Glaux, but it was her death that turned her beloved against the Great Spirit.

The Legends of Ga'Hoole[]
Born years before the tales of Ga'Hoole and Wars of the Hags, when the owl world was still young and the powers of magen were still arcane forces coming into existence, Ryt met and fell in love with another of her kind named Dyvrn, who was blessed by Glaux with 'symagen', the counterpart of nachtmagen. Dyvrn loved Ryt passionately, but also yearned to join the order of the Glauxian Brothers, and so the couple kept the existence of Ryt a secret.
Ryt, however, caught a severe case of grey-scales that she eventually succumbed to, passing on to the next life and leaving Dyvrn a grief-stricken widow who turned against Glaux in rage.
