Sarissa's Killer was an enormous Great Gray Owl, or Strix nebulosa, and a soldier of the League of the Ice Talons. A participant of the invasion of Gareth's Keep, he was dealt the death blow by Sarissa, but delivered a mortal wound to his foe with his dying breaths.
History[]
A Guide Book to the Great Tree[]
Upon discovering a recently-opened passageway formed in the natural barrier that had concealed the training camp of Little Hoole from the rest of the world, Bylyric amassed a force of his owls numbering in the thousand to invade and destroy the enemy encampment, which included this Great Gray.
Arriving as the shadows of First Black crept over the glen in a thunder of a thousand wings, the Ice Talons were met with fierce resistance by regiments of cadets and teachers alike under the combined command of General Kai, Sarissa and the Great Gray Maia, but the swift change of tactics instigated by the Monster of the Ice Mastiff's appointed commanding officers allowed the enemies, including this member of the Strix family to break through the first ranks of the Kielian League and spill into the phalanx, fighting in numbers that were five-to-one throughout the night, despite the mounting losses, during which this Great Gray drew blood with the ice scimitar he wielded at least once. As the light of the rising sun began to glimmer, Sarissa's Killer, his scarlet-stained weapon in talon, swooped at the unbalanced, defenseless form of Struma. Scimitar readied to strike down the Spotted Owl, the attention of the Great Gray was suddenly diverted by the white form of Sarissa as she dived at him, sending him staggering in the air before returning the blow with a lung of his own. Fighting with thrusts of his blade, every blow the Great Gray made was parried by the Snowy, who finally struck black with a slash that nearly severed the port wing from her foe's body, sending him plummeting towards the earth, writhing. It was these wild thrusts of the scimitar that ended the life of Sarissa, who's chest was slashed by the blade of the Great Gray, sending her falling after her foe.
