Shadyk was a Great Horned Owl, or Bubo virginianus, who was Theo's insane brother who usurped King H'rath's throne at the Ice Palace. He preferred to be called Commander Strong Talon.
Biography[]
Before the Books[]
Shadyk was reckless, which concerned Theo. It's noted that Shadyk never stood up against his father, and that Theo was his protector. Shortly after Theo left, Shadyk and his father went to war, in which his father was killed by his own son, who also attempted to murder his older sister Pye, in addition, though he failed and his gadfeather sibling managed to escape.
To Be a King[]
While H'rath's code was weakened, Shadyk took over his Ice Palace along with rebellious owls and hagsfiends. His mother approved of her son's behavior and disloyalty to the dead King H'rath, failing to see it as true treachery, but was unaware that her son had tried to kill her daughter, nor knew of Shadyk's hand in Hakon's murder. Later, Shadyk was brought his older brother who was working for Hoole, son of King H'rath. Theo sensed that his brother had forgotten their past and became yoicks.
An assasination attempt at Shadyk was planned by Emerilla. Shadyk somehow figured out and sent two guards to attack her along with his brother. Emerilla and Theo managed to escape.
Shadyk was present during the Battle of Short Light. It was unknown what happened to him.
