The Shagdah Snurl is a far north location in the Northern Kingdoms, and is said to be the place where the most violent winds, called Snurls, hatch. According to legend, the winds were created by two battling sisters, Solskynn and Snurla, who's fight was so intense that it raked the Northern Kingdoms.
When one approaches the Shagdah Snurl, the winds get more and more intense, turning into what Loki called "pre-Snurls", then into true Snurls. The area around the Shagdah Snurl is mostly formed from ice-clad volcanic rock, making it nearly barren of trees aside from a few stray strands of northern birches. The few owls who live in the region live in the rocky cliffs, and have become accustomed to flying in the intense winds, causing them to develop excellent flight skills. Residents have formed their own culture and customs, one such custom being the Skyboshing Celebration, where they would ride the newly formed kitibit winds.
The prey was said to be notably different from other areas in the Northern Kingdoms, with naked rockmunks being one of the main food sources. Wynnifred, one of the residents and the mother of Loki, was said to cook her food on coals. These coals are collected from the lava lake in the Nacht Sted, the center of the Shagdah Snurl where a large volcano sits.

The Rise of a Legend[]
The legend of the Shagdah Snurl is mentioned by Ulfa when Lyze senses the Snurls. When the violent winds start to hit, she tells him about the legends to distract him from his fear of the tree falling down.
Later, Lyze meets Loki and Blix, two owls who had hatched and grew up near the Shagdah Snurl. When they become friends, they decide to someday visit it together.
After the creation and development of the Glauxspeed Division, General Andricus gives Lyze permission to go on a scientific expedition to the Shagdah Snurl, bringing Loki and Blix along.
