Shattering, a symptom of fleckasia, is an affliction caused by exposure to flecks. An owl's brain is riddled with bits of metal called "iron oxides", which assist them in their navigation as they are able to sense the earth's magnetic field. Exposure to flecks can affect these bits of iron, muddling their navigational senses and causing much confusion. The flecks can also have affects on other vital organs, such as the gizzard. If the gizzard shatters, an owl becomes incapable of sorting out their emotions, and it can cause delusions.
