Monarch of the Northern Kingdoms, queen of King H'rath and mother of Hoole
Queen Siv was a female Spotted Owl, or Strix occidentalis, most famous for being the mother of Hoole and queen of the good King H'rath. She had an oddly-shaped port wing due to an injury with hagsfiends after she went on the run, and she could resist the deadly fyngrot.

History

Before the Books

When young Queen Siv, King H'ryth and Grank were practicing flying tricks, a soldier came by and offered the three a lemming. However, Grank sensed that the lemming contained a snake, and so he scared the snake, and it flew off. Siv and H'rath realized that Grank possessed magic and, due to his powers, had just saved H’rath from being murdered. So she and H’rath made a vow to never reveal to anyone Grank's abilities.

The First Collier

Siv, after being attacked by the Lord Arrin’s troops, who also killed her mate, fled with Myrrthe toward the Ice Dagger. There Siv stayed hidden in the ice crevice, waiting while her faithful servant went to see if the Glauxness of the Glauxian Sisters' Retreat, Rorkna, was still there. When Myrrthe returned she told Siv that wasn’t safe to go there because on the Sisters had been cast the Nacht Ga', so they went to the Ice Cliff Palace. During her brief stay there Siv was reached by Grank, and she gave him her egg with the task of protecting it and raising it in a safe place. Shortly after the hagsfiends burst into the palace, and the three owl had to part ways.

While Grank escaped with the egg, heading toward the Bitter Sea, Siv along with Myrrthe faced the enemies, and managed to defeat the hagsfiends’ fyngrot due to her concentration, although she was badly wounded and was able to fled only due to Myrrthe. The two found refuge in an ice hollow of an iceberg in the Firth of Fangs, where Siv rested and retained her strength. Then one day while Myrrthe was searching for lemmings for her Queen, she was murdered by the hagsfiends, while Svenka, a polar bear who she had met few days ago, witnessed the scene blocked by the fyngrot and returned to Siv to tell her of Myrrthe's death.

In the following days Siv learned again how to fly due to Svenka, who shortly after was forced to leave her to give birth to her cubs. During this time Siv thought a lot on what happened to her, and she understood how she managed to escape the fyngrot. Finally, in the same moment when her son hatched, Siv was reached by Lord Arrin and his troops. He asked her about the egg, but she didn’t answer and prepared herself for the battle.

The Coming of Hoole

Siv managed to escape Lord Arrin's troops and sheltered at Svenka's den together with her cubs Anka and Rolf. She also met Dunleavy MacHeath, a wolf from the Beyond who planned to inform Arrin about Grank and Hoole's whereabouts becaused he wanted to kill Fengo. Siv then managed to "bingle" MacHeath with a strong wine owls call bingle juice, and left to gather troops to help Hoole.

Siv and Hoole were reunited in Beyond the Beyond, after the battle in which Hoole faced Lord Arrin and his troops. After he retrieved the Ember and the battle ended, he found his mother on the verge of death, slashed across the chest. Siv then proclaimed that she was proud of Hoole being her son, and died in Hoole's wings.
