Sylvana, sometimes known as Sylvanaryb, is a young Burrowing Owl, or Athene cunicularia, and the ryb of the Tracking Chaw. Not much is known about her, but she is very pretty, as Soren says that he finds her legs more graceful than he has with most Burrowing Owls. She is envied by Dewlap, the former Ga'Hoolology ryb, due to the fact that she is pretty, younger, intelligent, kind, has a good singing voice, and has excellent flight skills despite being a burrowing owl.
History[]
The Siege[]
In the siege on the Great Ga'Hoole tree, she led the Guardians in digging their way away from the Pure Ones. She was kind and encouraging to all of them, whether or not they were Burrowing Owls. It is noted that Dewlap is jealous of her. She was also said to have a good singing voice and taught the Band a burrowing owl song.
The Shattering[]
It is noted that Digger has a crush on her. It is unknown if the two of them ever end up together.
The Burning[]
She talks when the parliament meets.
The River of Wind[]
Sylvana is part of the tracking unit heading for the sixth kingdom. Doc Finebeak tells her to take over while he talks to Bell, Cuffyn, and The Striga.
Exile[]
Sylvana was present with the rest of the parliament in the Listening Chamber. Pelli showed them the notice accusing The Band of hagscraft, which no one believed. Otulissa, mentioning how crucial Sylvana was during the siege, asks her for ideas about moving the ice weapons from their cold storage burrow. She replies that there's a tunnel in the roots on the other side of the tree, and she'll clean it out. When Poot asks if Coryn knows about the weapons, she answers that he might, but they haven't fought with them since the Battle of the Burning.
Personality[]
Sylvana is a kind, encouraging teacher, and is smart, friendly, and a good flier, unlike most Burrowing Owls and much to the envy of Dewlap. She is also said to be a good singer
Trivia[]
The name Sylvana is derived from the word "sylvan", meaning 'forest', which is ironic considering burrowing owls live in grasslands, deserts, and other open areas.
