Third is a young Polar Bear, or Ursus maritimus, and one of the main protagonists of the ongoing series, The Bears of the Ice. The final of a litter of cubs, Third was constantly abused by his mother, Taaka, which only increased after Third revealed himself to be a bear granted with the power of dreamwalking, which allowed him to wander through his mother's dreams. Third eventually fled his family's den after learning through his gifts that Taaka intended to offer him to the Ice Clock Cult she was aligned with as a Tick Tock and eventually met joined his distant cousins Stellan and Jytte.
Third subsequently travelled with his companions south into the Northern Kingdoms in search of Svern, reuniting and reconciling with his previously estranged littermate, Froya, who had abandoned Taaka and their brother on the same circumstances. Convincing Stellan and Jytte to permit his sister to join, Third, Froya and their cousins continued on, eventually meeting and training with Svern, after which Third and his friends successfully retrieved the Key to the Ice Clock.
After this, the cubs, Third among them, travelled to Ga'Hoole to request the aid of the Guardians against the Ice Clock Cult. They were subsequently trained at the Great Tree by Otulissa and, upon departure, Third was declared the group's tracker due to his skill set. Third then ventured through the territories of Ambala, Silverveil and Beyond the Beyond and forged alliances with the various communities situated there, including the Greenowls, Frost Beaks and MacNab and MacNamara Clans whilst also exposing the alliance the Timekeepers of the Ice Caps had formed with Duncan MacDuncan II and the MacHeaths. He currently lives in the Great Ga'hoole Tree with Froya, Stellan, Jytte and Svenna.
