- "The folly of vanity is the curse of the peacock, a nearly flightless bird, happy to remain so and to strut about for the admiration of earthbound creatures. Their appalling ostentation is equaled only by their appalling stupidity."
- ―Violet Strangetalon, The Burning, pg 107
Violet Strangetalon was a philosophical owl who often contemplated the nature of the souls of witless birds. She was mentioned by Gylfie, who reference a book she wrote on the subject of vanity. She most definitely has a very low opinion on vanity, much like the Striga, considering vain birds stupid and yeepish.
