Yurta is a female Spotted Owl, or Strix occidentalis, and Grank's sister. Though it is unconfirmed if she ever met or was even still alive by the time of his reign, Yurta was also the aunt of King Hoole via Grank's adoption of the Prince.

Yurta is only briefly mentioned, and not much is known about her other than that she was envious of Grank's natural ability to fly after his firesight visions and showed great signs of jealousy, though Grank and Yurta were still presumably close and the envy was simply sibling competition. Though her family were not the Royal Family of the N'yrthghar, Yurta was still the child of a nobles of such rank that just as Grank was considered a prince, Yurta was a princess in her own right.
